How I Re-invented My Personality In Six Months
My path was not an easy one but eventually, I found a way out…
Eight months ago I was a miserable soul unable to figure out where my life was heading. As a freelance writer, I was not getting any lucrative projects. The projects’ demands were tedious and low-paying (Thanks to the Freelance Market in India). Along with my unsuccessful attempts widespread layoffs in content writing companies were not only adding to the economic woes of my country, but also content writers were being asked to leave their jobs.
Since my dream of becoming a freelance writer from home was drowning I desperately needed to hang on to something that gave me hope to carry myself forward. Meditation and prayers along with yoga helped alleviate my silent suffering but I had to keep my head bobbing in my ocean of depression. Several attempts at securing a job in companies led to rejections and disappointments.
To keep myself from feeling unworthy and useless I continued writing not only on Medium but also writing fiction, which kept me moderately positive and happy. I had a channel to vent my frustration and writing did just that. A turning point came in my life when a family acquaintance recommended my name and urged me to take up a job in a construction and real estate company. I was not eager as it had nothing to do with writing. I hesitatingly accepted and joined the company.
With time I regained my lost confidence, got back the pride and joy of going to work, and became socially acceptable that a fifty-plus-year-old woman could still work and contribute positively to the company’s growth.
I hail from a teaching and journalism background with zero experience in the real estate sector, but I was slowly able to inch my way into the hearts and minds of my colleagues as well as my bosses who were wary of my experience and intimidated by my seniority. Still, I put all doubts to rest when my hard work and positivity reflected in my work as well as my personality. A smiling face and a sunny disposition made them embrace me as one of them.
Going to work daily with a learning and growth mindset was a winning trait that made me click with colleagues younger than me but far more experienced in the real estate and construction sector.
I am consciously working around the dynamics of both my writing as well as my corporate job since I want both to lead to satisfying and fulfilling career paths. While one satisfies my creativity, the other one sustains me financially. I look forward to both daily with renewed hope and enthusiasm.
In six months, my journey of reinventing my personality was transformative and enlightening. Setting clear intentions, practising self-reflection, seeking guidance, embracing change, cultivating positive habits, overcoming challenges, celebrating progress, and connecting with others were the stepping stones that paved the way for a more authentic and fulfilling version of myself. This ongoing process of self-discovery has instilled a profound sense of purpose, reminding me that personal growth is a lifelong journey worth embracing but all this was only possible with loads of self-confidence and determination.
