Practice Self-healing for Better Self Understanding
When the doors of science and medicine close, there is no greater remedy than self-healing.
What is self-healing? Simple yet profound in its meaning self-healing according to the Oxford English Dictionary means, ‘Self-healing refers to the process of recovery motivated by and directed by the patient, guided often only by instinct’.Source: Google
While a simple injury on our body can be treated by ourselves at home or with over-the-counter medications without the help of a doctor’s prescription. This can be done with experience or merely by using our gut instinct, which often stands us in good stead. The psychological damage done by outside forces leaves us with deep scars, fears, and insecurities leaving us mentally and emotionally crippled. How self-healing is the best medication to help us overcome our psychological problems. Let us understand the slow and gradual process of this miraculous method of treatment.
Heal the Mind by Healing Your Thoughts
Harsh words and behavior spoken in the past will continue to haunt us as long as we give them a chance to occupy a comfortable place in our heads. Daily emptying of the toxic words uttered to us by people who no longer have a place in our lives will help us make peace with ourselves. Healing the mind through daily brain dumping will not only heal our thoughts but make us stronger and more resilient to face the future. In the process of self-healing our thoughts have a placebo effect on our conscience. So if you are the victim or the perpetrator healing your thoughts has a calming effect on your conscience.
Express Gratitude
I feel that expressing gratitude for the things that I have has always played a positive effect on my personality. It has made me a calm, collected, and organized human being. Being in the rat race no longer disturbs me. I am grateful and above all happy for all that I have and will continue to have. Practicing daily gratitude makes us feel grounded and positive. Try it to believe it.
Practice Forgiveness
I am what I am today because of the people who maligned my career in my heydays. If it would not have been for them I would not have become a writer. I am thankful for the professional enemies that I’ve had and continue to have. They brought out the best in me. But, I made a big decision to forgive them and move on in life and I am really happy about it. Practice forgiveness for your well-being and peace. It’s worth trying, believe me, you won’t be disappointed.
Go for a Run
Running can be extremely therapeutic if you are struggling with personal trauma or emotional upheaval. Sweating it out during running releases endorphins the ‘feel good’ hormones that make us feel balanced and in focus. It also gives us the much-needed perspective that is required during testing times which would have otherwise clouded our judgment and fogged out our clarity.
Live in the present
I don’t want to sound clichéd but ‘Live in the present’, is not only underrated but also misunderstood one-liner. How many of us can do that? Not many. Our thoughts continue to go back to the past or we fast forward to the future with ‘IFs and ‘BUTS’. When nothing is in our control then why do we dwell on things that are over and done with or why do we think of events that are yet to unfold? For me living in the present is the only option that I have and I am happy being myself. Living in the present can help you cope with life better instead of stressing over unwanted issues.
Avoid Medication
After losing a parent, it became difficult to accept that, that person would never return. My journey of self-healing was slow, excruciatingly slow and painful, but I never went to a psychiatrist or a psychologist. I overcame my disillusionment on my own, through the practice of meditation and prayers. I avoided medication at all costs and writing became my go-to therapy. I gradually healed and feel upbeat about the obstacles I had to overcome with great pride.
Finally…
Embrace the Truth and Accept the Reality
Reality is harsh and sometimes cruel. What does a person do in extreme situations without a road to redemption? Well, a person can only accept his reality and move forward by taking each day as it comes. Prayers provide much-needed relief. By trusting a Higher Power we are giving the reigns of our grief to Him who will be in a better position to handle it. It sometimes takes years to heal and the pathways are filled with pain and emotional struggle but the wisdom that comes with it is far more elevating and uplifting.
There can be no greater healing than healing oneself of the pain and the hurt inflicted by people and the toxic environment that we live in. Though medications and prescription drugs keep anxiety attacks and a possible nervous breakdown at bay, we only begin to accept the person we are through self-healing, meditation, and yoga. This self-acceptance leads to peace and calm, unparalleled to anything money can buy. Practice self-healing to become the best version of yourself today.
